“All jonquils are daffodils, but not all daffodils are jonquils.” -AI (probably)

Become a Jonquie and…

Who we are

While dreaming up the name of this new labor of love, my husband and I had many discussions about the pronunciation. Jon-keez or jon-kweez? That probably depends whether or not you say jon-kwuhl or jon-kweel when referring to those gorgeous yellow flowers all over our city. “Jonquies,” to us, is an affectionate term for the bright pops of color that greet us every Spring, sometimes twice with this fickle Georgia weather. It’s also a term of endearment for the people who live in this beautiful city along with us. Jonquies or Jonquies’, the store was created with all of you in mind.

Where we came from

In 2015, I was lucky to find my permanent home in Smyrna. Here I met my husband, a fellow life-long Georgian. This is where we have built our life with our three dogs. It is where we’ve convinced friends and family members to build their lives, too, for the last ten years.

But before that, I had the privilege to grow up the daughter of a small business owner. And not just any small business - a Gifts and Collectibles Boutique in the 90s-00s during a particular era in which many, mini plush toys stuffed with beans were in fashion. But their business was built on more than just selling a product people wanted, it was built on service and community. It remains that way to this day.

Where we are going

Increasingly over the last few years communities across America have experienced the struggle and loss of many beloved brick and mortar businesses. But we see the hope of a small resurgence here in Smyrna, and we want to be a part of it.

Small business is inherently risky, and for the last twelve years I chose a significantly less risky career working in direct manufacturing, supporting and learning different areas across the supply chain and within our local communities,. It’s time to come full circle and enjoy the fun part - watching those types of products get to their intended person: you.

We support local artists and would love to have a discussion about how we might collaborate, but a wholesale experience might be a little different than direct to consumer. Even if it’s not the right fit, we learn something new with every encounter!
